"ἤθελον δὲ παρεῖναι πρὸς ὑ[ῡ]μᾶς ἄρτι,..."
Here the imperfect form of the verb
ἐθέλω or θέλω is used to express the speaker's wish in a polite way.Note ἄρτι means "just now" when it is used in the past tense.願望の丁寧な表現（意味は現在）；日本語でも丁寧表現にさかんに過去テンスを用います。
